In other news...I am really impressed with the barn manager at this new boarding facility. She is very good at what she does and I believe she is being very attentive to Farletta's needs. Such a relief!
Farletta looks like she is feeling better today. Her eye is mostly open again but still a bit cloudy. She is guarded if you are near her eye but doesn't seem as painful. I will keep her on NeoPolyDex twice a day through Sunday (total of 7 days).

I knew it was virtually impossible for Farletta to go through the kind of stress she endured the last few days an not have a flare-up. Her eye was completely swollen shut today and Farletta is in very obvious pain. I am so angry she has to endure this but you can't leave an hyper-photo-sensitive ERU horse out in the daytime and expect to not have consequences.
It did give the barn manager at the new barn a chance to see what a flare-up looks like in the beginning stages and I was able to show her how to administer the eye medications. There is still the issue of banamine...Dr. Shaarda said to keep her off of it for at least a few weeks to let her ulcers heal. She is still on the gastro-guard. I called and Dr. Shaarda said to try the banamine if she appears to be very painful but we really should avoid it. I ended up not giving it to her. Farletta has a history of colic as a complication of ERU and now has ulcers to boot. I'm hoping the pain killers in her eye meds will be enough to help her recover from this flare-up. Meds given: NeoPolyDex, Atropine (both BID) and 1/4 tube of gastro-guard. |
