The previous flare-up visually improved after about 7 days of treatment. I continued treatment (eye meds 4 times/day and banamine 2 times/day) until the 14th day (June 27th) as the inflammation can linger in the internal structures of the eye (where it originates) long after external expressions have ceased. I've been driving out to the farm at midnight to treat Farletta's eye. It's so nice and peaceful out in her paddock at night. As much as I miss my sleep (I return at 6am to give meds again) I kind of enjoy those midnight visits.

Just as Farletta's lameness was clearing up, her eye flared up. I can't believe this is happening to her again! I had the impression this might be a once or twice a year event but it has only been a few months.
Poor girl is miserable. She can hardly open the eye it is so swollen and the spasms are visible even with her eye all puffy. I called Dr. Shaarda, he told me to start her on her eye meds again and on banamine. Farletta and I had a show last Saturday (6/5). We had a couple good classes and she did OK but something just didn't feel right about her. She continues to struggle with her weight and really lacks any enthusiasm for her work. It's not like her, she is usually very happy to do her job.
Today I come out to find her lame in her RF hoof. I suspect abscess and am treating her for that. I don't think that's the whole problem, though...something just isn't right. |
